Both nurseries featured numerous varieties of fruit trees. As early as 1854, a postmaster general’s contract was awarded to C. Wallace and Rice Tilley. They traveled from Olympia to Grand Mound. During this time, they were able to build a wagon road between two towns. The road was called the Middle Road and was later changed to Case Road.
